About The Bull Hotel - its History

Situated in the historic town of Ludlow our Grade II listed building has been described as “the best medieval inn in Ludlow”. There are nearly 500 listed buildings in Ludlow and the original medieval street layout survives to this day almost unchanged. Today, the population of Ludlow is just under 12,000.

The oldest part of The Bull Hotel has been dated to 1199. It was then known as Peter Proctor House and is believed to have been built to house the men who built St Laurence's Church. It became known as The Bull Hotel in the middle of the 15th Century and the name was likely to have originated from the fact that bull baiting took place here in our courtyard.
